Asha Kayla, Alliance Boots

In this video interview (below) Asha Kayla, Energy and Carbon Reduction Manager at Alliance Boots, shares her opinions on her role in the Energy Management field and work at the Energy Managers Association.

Alliance Boots was formed in 2006 through the merger of the UK retail brand Boots and the wholesale and retail pharmacy group Alliance UniChem.

Alliance Boots is a multinational health and beauty group. It has two core business activities: pharmacy-led health and beauty retailing, and pharmaceutical wholesaling and distribution. It was formed in 2006 through a merger of the listed British high street pharmacist Boots Group and the pan-European wholesale and retail pharmacy group Alliance UniChem and has a presence in over 25 countries.

It is interesting to hear that Asha did not enter the profession via traditional channels such as technical or engineering. Asha’s primary interest is cultural and organizational change – something that is made easier by the level of interest in energy reduction expressed by Alliance Boots employees.

Asha serves on the board as Vice-Chair of the Energy Managers Association and describes her day-to-day role as “Engaging with stakeholders across the business to reduce the carbon footprint from energy use and working to embed energy efficiency thinking into processes and management decisions”.

Asha leads the Behavioral Change working group at the EMA, which aims to raise the profile of Energy Management within companies and facilitate board level awareness.

Asha argues that current Energy legislation is too complex and states in her interview that she would like to see simplification of Energy Management; from procurement, legislation and managing and understand data.
