Electrical supplies company Rexel has launched MeasureMyEnergy, a monitoring tool designed to measure the energy efficiency of a home, office or retail environment.
With a supporting web-based information portal, MeasureMyEnergy claims to be able to help reduce utility bills and carbon footprints with “real-time” data to show energy consumption as it is used.
Daily, weekly and monthly historical data is displayed in graph form so that fluctuations between energy generation and consumption (with their related costs) can be seen and compared.
The company has provided an open ended range of use so that there is no limit to the number of appliances or equipment that can be measured. Email and SMS alerts can be set up to warn end users if appliances have been left on, have been running at what Rexel calls “unplanned” times of the day or have been switched off unexpectedly.
Nayland Primary School in Suffolk has installed the product to monitor its appliances with a view to getting the maximum benefit from the energy generated by its solar panel installation. The Nayland pupils can also access the tool themselves via a computer and the school staff confirm that everyone has become more energy aware as a result.
“We have seen household and business energy consumption increase year-on-year. Combined with rising energy prices, this means it’s never been more important for households and businesses to monitor and manage the cost of their utilities,” said Brian Smithers, director, Rexel UK. “MeasureMyEnergy provides real-time data in a user-friendly format, empowering users by bringing to life the tangible impact of behaviour change.”
