Working to help businesses understand that the effective management of their energy consumption will positively affect their bottom line.
This article provides an introduction to EnergyDemand.co.uk.
Our aim is to provide a level of introductory insight into:
- What we’re about and why we exist
- What we intend to do and what our remit encompasses
- How you can get involved and why it matters
Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Martin Thompson and I’m the founder of Energy Demand. My background is in IT Asset Management – which in layman’s terms is the business discipline of managing the costs and risks associated with buying IT.
The Elephant in the Room
The issue of climate change is arguably the greatest socio-economic challenge to our global community. Business has a huge role to play in the reduction of global energy demand and it is my belief that the fastest route to creating lasting change in energy consumption habits is to make the choice a purely financial one.
Let us help businesses understand that the effective management of their energy consumption will positively affect their bottom line. Let us move energy from a ‘nice-to-have’ corporate social responsibility consideration to a ‘must-do’ financial director’s project.
The Energy Demand Manifesto
What do we want to do? In a nutshell – we want to help businesses reduce their energy demand. Our aim is to provide independent news, reviews and resources for energy professionals.
Our Guiding Principles:
- A Pragmatic Approach – Tangible content that Energy Managers can make use of in their daily work – not academic theory or marketing hyperbole
- Community Driven – Content direction dictated by the demands and needs of the audience – not advertisers or suppliers
Key Topic Areas:
- Innovation – Help Energy Managers navigate the Energy Efficiency market and make informed investment choices.
- Efficiency – Share strategies for making better use of existing resources.
Why we’re different
- EMA – Energy Demand is proud to be the official online magazine and professional network of the Energy Managers Association (EMA).
- No ‘Greenwash’ – We don’t claim to be on an environmental crusade – our primary aim is to empower Energy Managers and to address our readers in business terms. Reducing the energy consumption, carbon footprint and wider demands on the environment as a result of engagement with our readers will be a very satisfying by-product.
- Business Demand Focus – We are squarely focussed on business (as opposed to home/consumers) and demand (as opposed to energy supply choices).
- Independent – We can help our readers make informed purchasing decisions from a position of supplier independence.
- International – whilst our home base is the UK, we believe there is considerable benefit in building an international community of Energy Managers to sharing expertise.
